Cryptocurrency Billionaires Donate £72m to Reform UK Amid Controversy
Reform UK has received a significant boost in its finances, thanks to two major donations from cryptocurrency billionaires. Christopher Harborne, the party's largest donor, has matched a £36 million donation made by Ben Delo on Friday.
Harborne, who is based in Thailand, said his decision to match Delo's donation was inspired by 'a competitive spirit'. He stated that he hopes others will follow suit and donate to the party. The donation brings Harborne's total contribution to Reform UK to £45 million.
The £36 million donations from both Harborne and Delo come at a crucial time for the party, which has faced scrutiny over its finances in recent months. The money will be used to help Reform prepare for government, according to Harborne.
In his Telegraph article announcing the donation, Harborne emphasized the need for a 'profitable and dynamic economy' to address the country's 'existential threats'. He also noted that the UK needs to ensure it has a level playing field in politics. The donations have sparked controversy, with some calling for caps on political donations.
Reform UK denies any wrongdoing and has stated that it will cooperate fully with an ongoing investigation into allegations of breaching rules on political donations.
