CryptoPunks Trading Volume Surges 416% Amid GameSquare Acquisition
CryptoPunks, a popular NFT series, saw its highest weekly trading volume since March 2024 last week. The total trading volume reached $24.6 million, representing a significant increase of 416% compared to the previous week.
The surge in interest and trading activity is attributed to GameSquare, an Ethereum treasury firm listed on Nasdaq, purchasing Punk #5577 for $5.15 million. This rare NFT is one of only 24 'Ape Punks', making it a highly sought-after collectible. The company valued the Punk at approximately three times its floor price, setting a new precedent for blue-chip NFTs as legitimate treasury assets.
The acquisition by GameSquare likely sent a signal to funds and high-net-worth collectors that these rare digital art pieces are now considered valuable investments. As a result, fresh bids poured in across the entire CryptoPunks collection, driving up both its floor price and average sale price. The floor price increased from around 40 ETH to 47.5 ETH, while the average sale price rose from $140,000 two weeks ago to $182,000 last week.
