Crypto's Mixed Legacy: Price Surge Hides Industry's True Impact
Bitcoin's recent price surge has revitalized the crypto market, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the past decade was a success. The technology is being absorbed into traditional financial infrastructure rather than disrupting it.
The price of Bitcoin rose 26% in August, while Ether gained 34%. This rebound is seen as evidence that crypto is becoming a part of mainstream finance, rather than a replacement for it.
Stephan Lutz, former CEO of BitMEX, said 'We have already passed the point of no return' when it comes to the adoption of crypto technology. He noted that competitors quickly adopted the technology pioneered by BitMEX, shifting the market from building new infrastructure to a battle for market share.
Other experts also believe that despite the setbacks and challenges faced by the industry, there have been significant achievements. Utkarsh Ahuja, founder of Moon Future Capital, cited the impact of crypto on payment infrastructure, asset settlement, and tokenisation as examples of its success.
