Cryptos Shift From Market Cap Rankings to Fundamentals
Crypto investors are increasingly turning to more robust methods of evaluating tokens, focusing on fundamentals such as protocol revenue and actual usage rather than relying solely on market capitalization rankings.
Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise, notes that the crypto market is moving away from valuation methods centered on the 'CoinMarketCap leaderboard,' with investors now prioritizing a project's addressable market, user adoption, and revenue distribution to token holders.
For example, investors are valuing Hyperliquid's HYPE token based on its own business metrics, including derivatives trading volume and revenue structure, rather than treating it as a smaller version of another blockchain.
While short-term prices are still influenced by supply and demand in derivatives markets, fundamentals have more weight over longer investment horizons, particularly in sectors such as decentralized finance (DeFi) and decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN).
