Cuban Sees Chips as Next Big Investment Opportunity
Mark Cuban has made headlines in the financial and tech world with his bold prediction that 'chips as an asset class will be the new crypto.'
Cuban's comment, made on August 16, suggests that advanced computing hardware, particularly high-end AI accelerators such as GPUs, could become a major investment opportunity.
This idea is not entirely unfounded, given the growing demand for AI and computing power. CoreWeave, a company that has pioneered GPU-backed financing, closed a $2.6 billion facility in August, demonstrating lenders' confidence in long-term GPU demand.
Nvidia's recent quarterly data center revenue of $75.2 billion, up 92% from the previous year, also points to strong GPU economics.
However, not everyone agrees with Cuban's prediction. Pierre Rochard, a Bitcoin advocate, has rejected the analogy between chips and crypto, citing the lack of 'difficulty adjustments' and 'halvings' in chip manufacturing.
