Cuban's Skepticism vs Kendrick's Bullish Outlook on Bitcoin
Billionaire investor Mark Cuban remains skeptical of Bitcoin's recent price surge, saying it lacks strong fundamentals. The cryptocurrency had risen over 20% from its August 19 levels to briefly climb above $79,000 on August 21.
The rally was driven in part by a short squeeze, which occurs when traders betting on a price decline are forced to buy back the asset as prices rise. This led to $1.37 billion in crypto short positions being liquidated over 24 hours, according to CoinGlass data.
However, not everyone shares Cuban's pessimism. Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick has maintained a $100,000 year-end 2026 price target for Bitcoin and now believes it could prove too conservative. He attributes the Treasury's bond buyback move as 'exactly the type of thing Bitcoin loves,' given its fixed supply and ability to act as a hedge against monetary debasement.
