Cuomo Warns of Regulatory Lag as US Falls Behind in Crypto
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has sounded the alarm over the United States' lagging cryptocurrency regulations. Speaking at the SALT conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Cuomo warned that the lack of clear legislation is eroding America's global competitiveness.
The 'Clarity Act', a bill aimed at establishing federal rules for digital assets and clarifying regulatory agency responsibilities, has been stalled in Congress due to disagreements over ethics provisions. Majority Leader John Thune has scheduled an initial procedural vote for next month, but progress remains uncertain.
Cuomo contrasted the US with Europe, where the European Union has established a continent-wide regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. Without federal legislation, business and investment opportunities may shift to jurisdictions with more predictable rules.
The consequences of regulatory uncertainty are becoming increasingly apparent, making it difficult for companies to develop products without a clear framework in the United States. Cuomo emphasized that passing the 'Clarity Act' will require compromise from both Democrats and Republicans.
