Cuomo Warns Uncertainty Threatens US Leadership Amid CLARITY Act Push
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act ahead of its scheduled Senate vote on September 15. Speaking at the SALT Conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Cuomo warned that uncertainty in the digital asset market could weaken United States leadership as other economies adopt comprehensive rules.
Cuomo stated that American cryptocurrency firms require federal requirements to operate effectively and compete globally. He noted that the US lags behind the European Union, which has implemented its crypto rules at the bloc level.
The CLARITY Act proposes to divide regulatory oversight between the SEC and CFTC, determining whether digital assets are covered by securities laws or commodities laws. Cuomo emphasized that businesses need certainty before regulations can be enforced, and federal legislation could provide more sustainable standards than regulatory bodies.
