CZ Clarifies Unfollowing Spree: No Hack, Just Inactive Accounts

Binance founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) took to Twitter on September 8 to address speculation surrounding his account's recent unfollowing of certain users. The action was initially misinterpreted as a possible hacking incident, but CZ clarified that it was simply a cleanup of inactive accounts over 30 days old.

In November 2025, CZ had previously warned users not to buy accounts he followed, stating they were for sale and potentially worth between $3,000 and $20,000 on the gray market. This incident highlights the tendency of the crypto community to over-interpret CZ's social media actions as 'signals' that can trigger short-term speculative behavior.

The recent unfollowing event is not an isolated case. In 2021, a tweet from CZ featuring a 'bull' image led to the creation of a meme coin on the Binance Smart Chain, which saw a 357-fold increase in value within 48 hours.
