CZ Concedes Underestimating RWA Growth Amid Tokenization Boom
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has acknowledged that he underestimated the growth of real-world asset tokenization. In a recent community Q&A, CZ said he initially paid little attention to RWAs about 18 months ago but now sees their potential.
The market data supports his reassessment. RWA.xyz tracked $38.35 billion in distributed assets on-chain as of August 28, with nearly 3 million wallets holding them. This represents a 104% monthly increase and 1.54% growth over 30 days.
Ethereum led the way for distributed RWAs, holding about $17.2 billion, followed by BNB Chain at $5.7 billion and Solana at around $4.1 billion. Tokenized stock transfer volume jumped more than 415% to $29.5 billion in 30 days, while their distributed value reached $2.54 billion.
CZ noted that traditional financial instruments are increasingly moving onto blockchain networks due to advantages such as 24/7 trading, transparency, lower fees, and global access. He also compared the growth of RWAs to previous crypto trends like NFTs and memecoins, which grew far beyond his initial expectations.
