Crypto industry leaders are on high alert after Google's Quantum AI team published a whitepaper warning that 6.9 million Bitcoin (BTC) could be vulnerable to quantum computing attacks.

The research, released on March 30, found that cracking the cryptography behind BTC and Ethereum (ETH) could require fewer than 500,000 physical qubits, far less than previous estimates of millions.

In response, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao called for a widespread adoption of quantum-resistant algorithms, stating 'All crypto has to do is upgrade to Quantum-Resistant (Post-Quantum) Algorithms. So, no need to panic.' However, he also acknowledged the challenges involved in executing such a migration across decentralized networks.

The Ethereum Foundation has already launched a dedicated post-quantum security hub, while BTQ Technologies released Bitcoin Quantum testnet v0.3.0, which implemented the first working version of Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360, a practical experiment in quantum-resilient signatures.
