CZ Predicts Bitcoin Will Overtake Gold as Reserve Asset
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) expressed his optimism about Bitcoin's potential to surpass gold as a reserve asset during a recent fireside chat at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 event. According to data shared by market analyst Wu Blockchain, CZ believes that if more countries adopt Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset, its importance will eventually overtake gold's.
CZ pointed out that gold's current dominance is driven by its established custody among institutions and robust reserve systems owned by countries, rather than the metal's intrinsic value. He emphasized that gold's real liquidity lies in the maturity of its market valuation, high investor custody, and existing reserve systems, not in the asset itself.
CZ also highlighted the shift towards diversification in global reserves, with investors rotating funds into alternative assets like Bitcoin. He noted that the gap between gold's market capitalization ($15.899 trillion) and Bitcoin's market valuation ($1.6 trillion) could decrease as Bitcoin adoption expands among institutional investors and sovereign countries.
