CZ Warns Against Concentrated Bitcoin Bets Amid Market Conditions
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has cautioned investors against making concentrated Bitcoin bets in light of the current market conditions. This warning comes as Bitcoin is down about 49% from its all-time high, according to a mid-August report by VanEck's ChainCheck.
The report notes that despite this decline, 30-day realized volatility remains at a relatively low 27.2% annualized, well below the long-run average of around 80%. Additionally, spot trading volume over the past 30 days has decreased by 27% month-over-month and is ranked in the 10th percentile of its history.
CZ's comments on concentration are consistent with his views on the traditional four-year cycle framework. He has stated that this pattern remains intact, although identifying the next major catalyst is challenging. VanEck's data provides historical context for this view, showing that peak-to-trough bear phases in previous cycles averaged 12.7 months.
The firm also notes that the next accumulation phase could begin as early as September or October/November, based on their full-sample average and excluding the 2011 decline. However, it's essential to remember that past performance does not guarantee future results.
