Czech Minister Returns Bitcoin Donation After Gratitude Fades
Tomáš Jiříkovský, a key figure in the Czech 'Bitcoin scandal', has decided to retract his donation of nearly 15 billion forints worth of Bitcoin to the Czech Ministry of Justice. He cited ingratitude as the reason behind this decision.
The ministry announced on September 1 that it had received notification from Jiříkovský about the withdrawal of the donation, which was made public in August 14.
Jiříkovský had previously donated 468 BTC to the ministry, which were later sold for nearly a billion Czech korunas (approximately 15.2 billion forints). However, the police suspect that the Bitcoin actually came from a darknet market and was therefore a crime-derived income.
The case has been ongoing since Jiříkovský was accused of organizing and operating the darknet marketplace in the summer of last year.
