Czech Republic Slaps Crypto Firms with Stricter Regulations and Hefty Fees
The Czech Republic has tightened its regulations on crypto businesses, making it more difficult and expensive for them to operate in the country.
The change came into effect on July 1, 2026, when the transition period under MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) expired. Prior to this, a trade licence with minimal capital requirements was enough for crypto firms to operate legally.
Now, new applicants must face graduated capital requirements of EUR 50,000 to EUR 150,000, a multi-month regulatory review, and the same supervisory regime as banks and investment firms in the country. This has led to a significant increase in costs for these businesses.
