CZ's Tokenization Pitch Hits Regulatory Roadblock
CZ, CEO of Binance, has been promoting tokenization as a way for countries to raise money and attract foreign investment. He believes that by tokenizing assets such as state-owned enterprises, companies can sell their stocks to global investors, increasing liquidity and revenue.
This is not the first time CZ has made this pitch. In January, he discussed tokenizing state-owned assets with governments in Davos, mentioning Pakistan, Malaysia, and Kyrgyzstan as potential examples. He has also floated the idea of tokenizing gold, rare earth minerals, and water to finance infrastructure.
However, despite his enthusiasm for tokenization, CZ's pitch is not aligned with current regulatory frameworks. The SEC's proposed rules focus on U.S.-based issuers and existing public markets, rather than foreign governments selling state assets abroad.
