Dango's Perp DEX Shutdown Highlights Challenges in Competitive Crypto Market
Dango's perpetual decentralized exchange (DEX) will shut down on Wednesday, marking nearly four months since its launch in April. The Layer-1 blockchain project cited 'various reasons' for its decision to wind down operations, including cash shortages, legal challenges, and the loss of team members.
Larry Liu, Dango's founder, acknowledged these difficulties, stating that the team faced a 'viable path to lasting commercial success.' The project had raised $3.6 million in a 2024 seed round led by Hack VC and Lemniscap before its launch.
According to DefiLlama, Dango's total value locked fell from $4.5 million in early May to around $1.6 million before the announcement. The perp DEX market is highly competitive, with Hyperliquid dominating the field, holding over $11 billion in open interest.
