Dango's perpetual decentralized exchange (DEX) is shutting down nearly four months after its launch. The blockchain project cited various reasons, including cash shortages and regulatory challenges, as the cause for the shutdown.

The team behind Dango faced a series of setbacks since its mainnet launched in January with a $3.6 million seed round led by Hack VC and Lemniscap. The perpetual DEX was rolled out in April but suffered a $410,000 exploit just days after launch. The attacker later returned the funds as part of a bug bounty.

Dango's total value locked fell from a peak of around $4.5 million to about $1.6 million before the announcement. In comparison, Hyperliquid held over $11 billion in open interest on Saturday, with Aster and Variational also holding more than $1 billion each. Dango's own open interest was just under $391,000.

The shutdown adds to a growing list of crypto platform closures this month, including 11-year-old perpetual futures pioneer BitMEX. Restructuring adviser Roshan Dharia attributed the closure to structural pressures facing mid-sized exchanges due to increased regulatory compliance costs and concentration among larger players.
