Danville Police Warn of Bitcoin Scam Targeting Residents

The Danville Police Department in Virginia has issued a warning about a bitcoin scam that's targeting residents. According to the department, scammers are making phone calls using fake names and numbers of government agencies and personnel to trick people into making payments or transferring money.

No legitimate entity will ask for payment over the phone, withdraw cash, or meet someone at a location for exchange using wire services, Bitcoin machines, or gift cards. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and verify with the department before taking any action.

The police are urging people to be cautious and not give out personal, medical, or financial information over the phone. They also advise that email addresses and phone numbers can be replicated by scammers, so receiving a call from an authentic-looking number does not guarantee it's legitimate.
