Dark Web Driver's License Leak Exposes Millions to Identity Theft
A massive driver's license leak has sparked outrage in the crypto community, with some proponents slamming Know Your Customer (KYC) policies for putting innocent people at risk.
Cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs discovered a dark web service called Nexus claiming to sell scans of over 153 million driver's licenses from U.S. and Canadian citizens, along with millions of other identity documents.
According to Krebs, the data includes front and back shots of licenses, as well as infrared and ultraviolet versions, with some records allegedly containing information about high-profile individuals like U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Venice.ai and Shapeshift founder Erik Voorhees criticized KYC regulations, stating they 'endanger millions of innocent people so that regulators can feel as if they're providing value to the world.'
