Dashjr Departs OCEAN Amid BIP-110 Fallout
Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr has parted ways with OCEAN Mining after a tumultuous period surrounding BIP-110, a proposal aimed at restricting non-financial data embedded in Bitcoin transactions.
The proposal failed to attract broad miner support, with signaling peaking at around 2.6% of network hashrate, well below the targeted 55% threshold.
Despite OCEAN's initial support for BIP-110, its Decentralized Alternative Templates for Universal Mining protocol allowed individual miners to make transaction-selection decisions independently from the pool's default policy.
The disagreement highlighted a central governance tension surrounding mining pools and led to Dashjr's departure as chairman, chief technology officer, and director of OCEAN. Mummolin Inc., OCEAN's parent company, repurchased all his equity under a mutually agreed separation.
