Dashjr Removed as BIP Editor Amid BIP-110 Controversy
Luke Dashjr, chairman and chief technology officer of mining pool Ocean, has been removed as an editor from the Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs) repository. The decision was made by fellow editor Mark 'Murch' Erhardt, who cited several reasons for Dashjr's removal.
Erhardt pointed out that Dashjr had exercised editorial authority inconsistently with the established process, favoring BIP-110, a proposal he championed. He also noted that Dashjr had left fewer than 1% of comments in the repository since additional editors joined in April 2024.
The removal comes after BIP-110, which aimed to temporarily bar non-financial data like Ordinals inscriptions from Bitcoin transactions, stalled due to a lack of support. The proposal peaked at 2.53% of block signalling before mandatory signalling began at block 961,632.
Dashjr has disputed the outcome and continues to argue that the majority chain is not Bitcoin. He has also announced a sabbatical from Ocean to focus on open-source projects supporting Bitcoin.
