DAT Market Cap Hits $340 Billion as Altcoin Performers Take Center Stage
Crypto treasury companies have seen significant growth in their market capitalization since the start of the bull trend, reaching $340 billion. These companies, known as digital asset treasuries (DATs), buy and hold cryptocurrencies to raise capital at a premium and use it as leverage to buy more tokens.
Investors are willing to purchase DAT shares because these companies take leveraged positions in the underlying assets, amplifying returns. Established names like Strategy (MSTR) and Bitmine (BMNR) have seen a 30% and 27% increase in value, respectively, mirroring the price appreciation of their underlying bitcoin and ether.
However, new-age DATs with less attention, such as CYPH and PURR, which track underlying tokens for Zcash (ZEC) and Hyperliquid (HYPE), have been some of the best-performing crypto-related vehicles. These altcoin DATs have returned 62% and 142%, respectively.
The unique value proposition of these DATs lies in their ability to participate in an ecosystem, staking ETH and helping secure the network for Ethereum DATs, running a Hyperliquid validator to vote in governance for PURR, or operating a mining operation to contribute hashrate to the network for CYPH.
