Data Protection Commission Rejects Officer's Appeal Over Cryptocurrency Loss
A Health Service Executive fire-prevention officer has lost an appeal against the Data Protection Commission's refusal to investigate an alleged data breach.
Eamon McShane claimed that his work phone was compromised in a cyberattack on the HSE computer system in May 2021, resulting in him losing €1,400 in cryptocurrency.
He acknowledged using his work phone for personal emails, which he accepted was not an acceptable use of the device.
The High Court initially dismissed McShane's case, and the Court of Appeal has now rejected his appeal.
