DATs Blast Past $340 Billion Valuation Amid Crypto Volatility
The collective market capitalization of Digital Asset Treasury Companies (DATs) has surged to $340 billion, surpassing the valuation of companies like Netflix or Salesforce.
This rapidly growing sector has expanded from just four firms five years ago to 142 by the end of 2025, with a staggering 76 new entrants this year alone.
A DAT is a publicly traded firm that holds cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) on its balance sheet, allowing investors to buy equity in these companies instead of buying the cryptocurrencies directly.
The strategy pioneered by Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has become a template for over 100 other companies. Its market capitalization stands at approximately $42.5 billion, and it holds hundreds of thousands of BTC on its balance sheet.
The growth of DATs comes with volatility, as their market caps can fluctuate significantly due to changes in sentiment. For example, the top 50 Bitcoin-holding DATs saw a 55% drawdown in just weeks this summer.
