Decentraland Taps Creators with Milestone-Based Funding Program

Decentraland has launched Creator Success, a funding program for game developers that rewards projects based on their progress. The program is designed to support creators in building fully funded games within Decentraland's virtual environment.

The unique aspect of Creator Success lies in its staged payment structure, where developers receive $1,000 once they demonstrate a working core game loop, followed by an additional $3,100 for delivering a playable build. This approach breaks away from the traditional grant model, which often prioritizes pitch documents over actual game development.

Decentraland has also introduced AI Game Design Skills, a set of tools that help developers turn loose concepts into structured Game Design Documents (GDDs). The platform's user-generated content model relies heavily on active creators, and the company aims to reinforce it by providing direct funding and AI resources. This combination is expected to reduce financial and time-based risks for creators, making them more willing to commit to their projects.

Decentraland joins other platforms like The Sandbox in leveraging AI tools to support creator development. While The Sandbox focuses on prize incentives, Decentraland's Creator Success program ties funding directly to project milestones. Applications for the program remain open through Decentraland's official channels.
