Decentralized Cloud Computing Gains Traction with Akash Network

The centralized cloud computing market is dominated by three companies: Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. These corporations control roughly two-thirds of all cloud computing spending on the planet.

Akash Network (AKT) aims to break this monopoly by creating a permissionless, open marketplace for idle computing hardware worldwide.

The protocol has facilitated more than $172 million in annualized compute demand and uses a reverse auction mechanism to set prices. This means tenants post their maximum price they are willing to pay per block, and providers bid to win the work, pushing costs well below hyperscaler rates.
