Decentralized Hyperliquid Surpasses Centralized Exchanges in Derivatives Open Interest
Hyperliquid's decentralized perpetual exchange has reached a significant milestone in its adoption among active traders. Its open interest (OI) has surpassed several major centralized exchanges, including Bybit, Kraken, and Coinbase, with a total of $5.25 billion in outstanding derivative contracts.
This marks a notable development in the crypto derivatives market, as Hyperliquid's growth suggests that traders are increasingly comfortable with on-chain execution and self-custody of positions.
While Binance still leads with an OI of $24.91 billion, the gap between it and Hyperliquid is narrowing, indicating that decentralized platforms can compete meaningfully in the derivatives space.
