DeepSeek Revenue Soars Tenfold as China's Most Valuable AI Startup Eyes $74 Billion Funding Round
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has reported a tenfold increase in revenue for the first seven months of 2026, reaching 475 million yuan ($70.7 million). This growth exceeds The Information's annualized estimate of $400-500 million and puts DeepSeek on track to meet its ambitious funding target of $74 billion.
The startup's net loss has also decreased significantly, from 935 million yuan in 2025 to 715 million yuan in the same period this year. This reduction is attributed to the efficiency of DeepSeek's models, which require fewer chips to perform at competitive levels, resulting in a gross margin of 44.6% and an API access business margin of 82.9%.
While DeepSeek's revenue growth is impressive, it still lags behind larger American labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic. However, the Chinese startup excels in terms of pricing strategy efficiency, with its V4 Pro model costing significantly less than similar products from competitors like SpaceXAI's Grok 4.6.
DeepSeek is preparing for a listing on Shanghai's Star Market and has already picked investment banks for the process. The company aims to file for an IPO by the end of this year, with a public debut targeted for 2027.
