DeFi Bridges Wiped Out by Hackers in Record-Breaking $35.6M Heist
Three separate crypto bridge hacks drained over $35.6 million from DeFi protocols AFX Trade, BSquared, and VerusCoin in a single day.
The largest heist targeted AFX's Arbitrum bridge, where hackers stole approximately $24.2 million worth of USDC.
According to blockchain security firm Blockaid, the attackers may have gained access to validator keys or the bridge's backend system, allowing them to approve a withdrawal with just five out of seven required signatures.
The stolen funds were quickly moved from Arbitrum to Ethereum.
Another attack targeted BSquared Network, where hackers stole nearly $3.9 million worth of B2 tokens, selling some immediately for BNB and bridging the funds through various protocols to make tracking more difficult.
VerusCoin's Ethereum bridge suffered its third attack in a row, losing over $7.54 million after an attacker reused a previously exploited import path contract bug.
