DeFi Leaders Reject Ethereum Staking Reward Cap Proposal

A proposal to cap staking rewards on Ethereum (ETH) has sparked backlash from DeFi players. The proposal, known as EIP-8361, aims to remove staking rewards if staked ETH surpasses half of its overall circulating supply.

The proposal, put forth by researcher Justin Drake and the team, claims that it would help solo stakers and make ETH a store of value by making it deflationary. However, top DeFi leaders such as Stani Kulechov, CEO of Aave, have rejected the plan, calling it 'bad for decentralization' and 'bad for Ethereum adoption.'

Kulechov stated that the proposal would 'derail institutional adoption' and affect solo stakers with 'unpredictable yield.' He also warned that it would hurt DeFi borrowing strategies.
