DeFi Lending Protocols Hold Over $42 Billion as XPlace CEO Pushes for Safer Borrowing Tools
XPlace CEO Artem Ponomarev believes that digital wealth needs safer paths to liquidity. He argues that investors should be able to access their funds without selling long-term digital-asset positions.
Ponomarev points out that DeFi lending protocols currently hold more than $42 billion in total value locked, with some platforms like Aave holding approximately $14.74 billion and active loans on Aave standing at about $11.26 billion.
The CEO suggests that digital-asset services must move beyond helping people acquire wealth and provide responsible ways to use it. He compared the model of collateralized borrowing in crypto with traditional finance, where investors can borrow against securities or property without selling their long-term positions.
Ponomarev emphasizes the importance of conservative loan-to-value limits, continuous collateral monitoring, and plain disclosure of interest charges and liquidation terms to ensure that investors understand exactly what happens if the value of their collateral falls before they borrow.
