DeFi Sector Index Surges 37.7% Amid Shifting Regulatory Landscape
The DeFi sector is experiencing a growth spurt, with its index, $DEFI.ssi, surging by approximately 37.7% from August 17 to around 0.498.
This increase has been supported by the rebound in Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as broader short covering, reflecting a reassessment of DeFi protocols' revenue generation, token buyback mechanisms, and the evolving U.S. regulatory environment.
The primary valuation obstacle for DeFi tokens was previously clear: protocols generated trading volume, deposits, and fee revenue, yet token holders had limited access to the resulting economic value.
However, with shifting U.S. policy, including the SEC's proposed 'Regulation Crypto Assets' framework and the Senate's CLARITY Act draft, regulators are beginning to treat DeFi tokens as cash-flow-linked assets rather than mere governance tools.
