DeFi Sector Sees Surging Growth as Pump and Hyperliquid Rack Up $37.5M in August Revenue
The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector experienced significant growth in August, with Pump and Hyperliquid leading the charge. The two protocols generated a combined $37.5 million in revenue during the month.
This surge in revenue was reflected in the leaderboard for on-chain retained fees, where both platforms ranked among the highest. Eight out of the top 15 DeFi protocols reported a month-over-month increase in revenue, with Pump and Hyperliquid being the most notable examples.
The success of these protocols can be attributed to their operational models. Hyperliquid's decentralized perpetuals platform saw continuous trading activity, generating fees during periods of price volatility among major crypto assets. Meanwhile, Pump's model focused on optimization services and structured reselling of cloud resources geared toward the B2B corporate sector.
The market's mixed performance over the past month highlighted sharp contrasts among different industry niches. While some legacy protocols saw temporary dips in total value locked (TVL), platforms centered on intensive trading captured a sizable share of circulating capital.
