DeFi Technologies Stock Sees Extreme Volatility Linked to Bitcoin Prices
DeFi Technologies' stock has been closely tied to Bitcoin's performance, resulting in a 90% annualized 30-day volatility reading. The company's revenue base is directly affected by Bitcoin's price fluctuations, which led to a sharp decline in the second quarter.
The company reported a $7.8 million revenue, down from $13.1 million in the same period last year, and an operating loss of $2.3 million. The main culprit behind this decline was the depressed price level of digital assets, which mechanically shrinks average assets under management and fees tied to that base.
Despite the challenging market conditions, DeFi Technologies has a strong cash position with around $135 million in combined cash, digital treasury assets, and stablecoins. This cushion becomes critical as the company navigates a regulatory deadline with the Nasdaq.
