DeFi TVL Sees First Monthly Increase in Nearly a Year
The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector appears to be showing early signs of recovery after a difficult first half of 2026. The period saw nearly $1 billion in hacks and exploits, as well as a prolonged decline in crypto markets.
Total DeFi total value locked (TVL) increased by 5.3% in July to $73 billion, marking the first monthly increase in nearly a year. This followed months of declines, with TVL dropping from $154 billion in October 2025 to $70 billion in June 2026.
The modest rebound suggests that capital may be gradually returning to DeFi protocols. However, it is essential to exercise caution and consider the sector's overall performance before making any investment decisions.
