Democrats Block Clarity Act Vote Over Ethics, Stablecoin Yield Concerns

The fate of the CLARITY Act hangs in the balance as Senate Democrats threaten to block its procedural vote unless negotiators resolve several outstanding issues.

The bill, which aims to establish a federal framework for digital asset markets and clarify regulatory responsibilities, faces an uphill battle after Democrats reached a consensus that they will not support cloture without movement on ethics restrictions, illicit finance rules, and stablecoin yield provisions.

Punchbowl News reporter Brendan Pedersen noted that 'Democrats won't be moved by crypto cash at this point', indicating that the issue has transcended mere policy disagreements to become a matter of principle.

With only 53 Senate seats controlled by Republicans, they would still need at least seven Democratic votes to advance the bill, and the current vote count suggests that support is lacking.
