Democrats Gear Up for Crypto Probe of Trump's Finances
Democrats are preparing to investigate President Donald Trump's cryptocurrency ties if they regain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
Key committee leaders, including Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), have expressed opposition to a bipartisan bill aimed at regulating cryptocurrencies, with Waters calling for hearings to investigate the national security implications of Trump's cryptocurrency holdings.
The Democrats' focus on Trump's crypto connections stems from his $1.4 billion in profits during his first year back in office and allegations that he has profited off his family's stablecoin.
Rep. Brad Sherman (Calif.), the top Democrat on the House's subcommittee on capital markets, said that investigating Trump's cryptocurrency ties would be a priority if Democrats retake control of Congress.
