Democrats Reject Latest Crypto Bill Draft Over Ethics Concerns

Share

Senate Democrats have rejected the latest draft of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, citing concerns over ethics rules related to government officials' cryptocurrency business connections.

The legislation, which aims to provide clarity on market structure, has been a subject of negotiation between Republicans and Democrats. However, with a crucial procedural vote scheduled for Tuesday, tensions have risen as both sides fail to reach an agreement.

Cynthia Lummis, a Republican senator, claimed that she had granted 114 policy compromises to Democrats during discussions. She emphasized that President Trump's consent to additional ethics restrictions on himself and other government officials was unexpected, but that she has exhausted all possible concessions.

The procedural vote requires 60 senators' support to move the legislation forward. Industry organizations are closely monitoring developments, with some advocating for passage while others oppose it without additional modifications.
