Deribit's Market Share Slips Amid Growing Competition in Crypto Options
The crypto options market has seen significant changes in the first half of 2026. According to data from CoinGlass, the top four exchanges managed more than 98% of the combined Bitcoin and Ethereum options volume, with Deribit remaining the overall volume leader.
The breakdown shows that Deribit processed $425.9 billion in volume, securing a 49.3% share of the aggregate market. Bybit ranked second, capturing 22.3%, followed by Binance at 13.4% and OKX at 13.3%. However, this hierarchy has seen changes between January and June.
A notable modification in individual platform dominance has been observed, with Deribit's monthly market share declining from 56.3% in January to 41.8% in June. This reduction is linked to increased competition in the Ethereum options sector, where Bybit emerged as the primary destination for Ethereum-specific options trading.
The trend indicates that market participants favor specific platforms depending on the underlying cryptocurrency asset class. Additionally, Coinbase plans to move all institutional clients and accounts to Deribit by September 9, 2026, which is expected to alter institutional liquidity pathways.
