Derivatives-Driven Rally Pushes Bitcoin Price Near $80K
The price of Bitcoin has reached an all-time high near $80,000 after a sharp breakout in price action. According to TradingView charts, Bitcoin has broken above the critical resistance level of $68,002 and is currently moving closer to $79,256.
Derivatives traders are playing a larger role in this price action compared to spot buyers. This is evident from the rise in perpetual futures (perps) and not spot markets, as highlighted by Ted Pillows' X post titled 'Price Up. Demand Flat.'
The growth of open interest in Bitcoin has also been significant, reaching approximately $55 billion on August 26, according to CoinGlass. This simultaneous growth in price and open interest suggests increased market activity in the derivatives segment.
