DEX Volume Slumps 26% in July Amid Broader Market Decline
Decentralized exchange (DEX) volume slumped by 26% in July to around $130.77 billion, marking its lowest level since September 2024. This decline is part of a broader trend that saw spot trading volume on DEXs slide across all segments in the second quarter.
The drop in DEX volume was accompanied by a contraction in stablecoin supply, which shrank by $2.23 billion this month to approximately $308.47 billion, according to DeFiLlama's tracker. This reduction in liquidity is significant, as dollar tokens set the price of most on-chain trading pairs.
Analysts at K33 Research attribute the decline to a seasonal pattern, describing July as the weakest stretch for Bitcoin (BTC) trading volumes this year. They note that average daily spot volume across the market stood at $2.2 billion over the past 30 days, with open interest on CME futures near multi-year lows and perpetual futures open interest around 300,000 BTC.
