Diesel Prices Hit Record High, Threatening Blockchain Infrastructure
US diesel prices have reached an all-time high of $5.62 per gallon, surpassing the previous record set in June 2022. The Energy Information Administration reports that this spike in diesel prices is occurring at a time when stocks are at a seasonal low and the war in Iran has limited imports from the Gulf.
The rise in US diesel prices is affecting the energy-consuming blockchain infrastructure, including Bitcoin mining companies, Bitcoin Application-Specific Integrated Circuit distributors, and data center operators. These entities will face higher expenses for logistics and backup power due to increased fuel costs.
Pubically traded miners like Marathon Digital and Riot Platforms will continue to bear the brunt of diesel-linked power costs, while smaller operators may be threatened with grid shutdowns.
