Digital Assets Rewrite Wall Street's Weekend Trading Playbook
Wall Street's traditional 'weekend effect' is being rewritten by digital assets. Around-the-clock trading in perpetual futures and other digital assets has eroded the practice of institutions cutting positions before Friday's close to avoid weekend risks.
CME Group CEO Terry Duffy said that risk does not adhere to a calendar, and financial markets are headed towards 24-hour trading.
Perpetual futures in the digital asset market trade 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Digital-asset exchanges have also seen active trading in perpetual futures tied to underlying assets such as crude oil and stocks.
A notable example occurred during the US-Iran war, when investors piled into crude oil futures on Hyperliquid, sending trading volume sharply higher on the exchange.
