DigitalX Sparks Crypto Price War with Fee-Free Trading Promotional Period
DigitalX, formerly known as Korbit, has announced that it will eliminate all trading fees across its entire KRW Market lineup for one year starting August 24. This move is seen as a bold attempt to gain market share in South Korea's crypto exchange market following the company's acquisition by Mirae Asset Group.
The promotional period will run from 9 a.m. on August 24, 2026, through 9 a.m. on August 24, 2027, and all orders executed during this time will be exempt from trading fees. According to Oh Se-jin, CEO of DigitalX, 'investors have endured particularly difficult times amid the challenging conditions in the digital asset market.' He added that the company hopes to demonstrate accountability to its customers through this full fee waiver.
This decision has raised concerns about triggering an industry-wide price war among South Korean crypto exchanges. Industry observers warn that DigitalX's zero-fee policy, backed by deep-pocketed capital from Mirae Asset Group, will create significant pressure on smaller exchanges with virtually no fee revenue to fall back on. Upbit holds a dominant No. 1 position in the country's KRW market, followed by Bithumb, Coinone, and Gopax.
