Dogecoin Blazes Past Peers as Whale Interest Soars
Dogecoin rose 21% in just one week, outshining other popular meme coins like Shiba Inu and Pepe.
The significant price increase was driven by renewed interest from large holders, also known as whales. On January 3rd, over 1.08 billion DOGE worth $413 million was purchased by these influential investors.
A recent transaction involving 399.9 million DOGE, valued at approximately $144.9 million, was transferred from Binance to an unknown wallet, suggesting reduced selling pressure as coins were moved to private wallets, according to blockchain analytics platform Blockchair.
Dogecoin has a strong historical track record in January, with the cryptocurrency experiencing significant gains in previous years. In 2021, DOGE skyrocketed by 711%, while in 2014, it rose by 269%. Open interest in Dogecoin has also increased by over 50% in the past five days, rising from $2 billion to $3 billion.
Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, forecasts that Dogecoin could reach $1 by 2025, resulting in a market capitalization of $100 billion. This prediction highlights the potential for significant gains in the cryptocurrency's price.
