Dogecoin Goes to the Moon: Historic Space Mission Set for Launch
The cryptocurrency DOGE-1 has been making headlines since its announcement in May 2021. The mission, developed by Geometric Energy Corporation, aims to send a privately funded satellite into lunar orbit using a launch contract paid for entirely with Dogecoin. This historic agreement makes Geometric Energy Corporation the first crypto-paying customer of SpaceX.
The DOGE-1 spacecraft will carry a CubeSat aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Once deployed, it will enter lunar orbit and collect lunar-spatial intelligence and imagery using its cameras and sensors. The mission also features a digital display system designed to broadcast images and digital artwork back toward Earth.
The DOGE-1 mission brings together several specialist organizations, including Geometric Energy Corporation, SpaceX, Exobotics, and Maverick Space. As the launch date approaches, attention is building around this unique intersection of cryptocurrency, space exploration, and meme culture.
