Dogecoin Price Slips as August Death Cross Deepens Bearish Technical Picture

Dogecoin's price has been slipping, and its technical picture is looking increasingly bearish. The cryptocurrency flashed its first hourly death cross of August on Wednesday, a signal that traders often interpret as confirmation of weakening short-term momentum. This comes after Dogecoin completed its first weekly death cross since 2023, which previously coincided with an extended stretch of subdued price action.

The current death cross is unfolding against the backdrop of macroeconomic uncertainty. Investors across risk assets are bracing for the latest US nonfarm payrolls report and July unemployment data. Market estimates point to a payrolls gain of roughly 83,000 jobs, with the unemployment rate expected to hold steady.

Despite the soggy price action, blockchain data reveals a jump in network engagement. Crypto analyst Ali noted that weekly active Dogecoin addresses climbed 16%, rising from approximately 38,000 to 44,000. The uptick suggests that user participation is broadening even as spot prices grind lower.

However, the technical pressure is evident. Market participants are zeroing in on the $0.068 support zone, and a decisive breakdown would likely strengthen bearish conviction. On the upside, resistance is clustered between $0.073 and $0.08. Reclaiming that band would improve the short-term outlook and signal a meaningful revival of buying interest.

Institutional flows have also flickered back to life. Data from SoSoValue shows that spot Dogecoin exchange-traded funds recorded net inflows of $82,640 on August 4, marking the first positive flow since July 21. While spot DOGE ETFs have logged only nine net-inflow sessions throughout 2026, they have experienced just two days of net outflows over the same stretch.
