Dogecoin Surges as Memecoin Market Sees Massive Rally
Dogecoin (DOGE) has staged a comeback in the market, rallying by 10% over the past 24 hours. This surge in price coincided with a wider memecoin market rally that propelled PEPE up by 19% and SHIB by 10%. The overall memecoin sector saw its market capitalization increase by over 5.37%, accompanied by a massive 189% spike in trading volume to roughly $4.14 billion.
Dogecoin dominated activity levels, recording daily volume of approximately $1.28 billion - more than half its weekly volume compressed into one trading session. This price movement was partly attributed to the U.S. Treasury's announcement to double its long-term bond repurchase program, which introduced additional liquidity into financial markets while pressuring the dollar lower.
The cryptocurrency Fear & Greed Index advanced from 46 to 62, entering firmly into 'Greed' territory. In derivatives markets, Open Interest for perpetual futures contracts expanded to 17.21 billion DOGE, rising from 16.87 billion the previous day. Funding rates have maintained positive territory since August 5, indicating that bulls continue paying premiums to maintain long positions.
