Dogecoin's 21.4% August Surge Fizzles as Traders Reassess
Dogecoin (DOGE) ended August on a high note, up 21.4% for the month and its strongest performance of 2026 so far. This turnaround comes after three consecutive monthly declines, with DOGE down 5.9% in May, 28.3% in June, and another 3.4% in July.
The rally stalled near $0.0996, where sellers defended the $0.10 level. Derivatives demand has cooled off since the peak, with perpetual futures open interest falling to about 15.7 billion DOGE on August 28, down from 17.3 billion six days earlier.
Daily trading volume also contracted sharply over the same stretch, sliding to $1.5 billion from $5.2 billion on August 23. Analysts point to a broad rotation back into speculative altcoins and renewed appetite for Dogecoin-linked investment products as contributing factors to the price surge.
